About The Artist

“Anxiety and absurdity are my biggest inspirations for creating art. Art has a way of holding a mirror to our mental health and thought processes whether we want to recognize it or not. I find this to be a common realization throughout my own work as it helps me think through anxiety, depression, and other conscious and subconscious struggles. My body of work uses symbols, colors, and dream like content to present a thought process and encourage viewers to reflect on how these thought processes relate to their own mental health.” Avery Laurel Appling is a queer nonbinary artist from Georgia who loves to create works of art that are fun to look at and interesting to think about. Avery graduated from Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University in Atlanta GA in 2023. After graduation, Avery moved to Gainesville GA, and is now working for Purple House Gallery. Avery has a passion for learning new media and has a wide range of artistic interests from drawing and painting, to fiber art, to even stain glass. Because of these multiple interests, Avery loves to make mixed media art that speaks to different emotions.
